Study to Show Thyself Approved

2 Tim. 2:15 makes something very clear. To study to show ourselves approved and handle it correctly.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

It’s interesting how many people call themselves Christians, but don’t spend time in the Word, causing them not to know the Lord intimately, not being grounded in Truth, causing them to be deceived and walking in defeat. That’s sad!

You might not see much need to read your Bible on a regular basis and if not, then I will be bold enough to say that you probably aren’t abiding in Christ and not walking in very much victory or freedom. That is your choice, probably not a very smart one though.

Col. 3:16 says: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

It is so important to have the Word of God dwell in you richly and abundantly. To do so is allowing the Lord to be perfected in you. When that happens you have more Word in you than flesh and the world and you then walk as a conqueror having victory over the corruption that is thrown at you. Still not convinced? What about the demonic forces that wants to drag your soul to hell? The Bible is clear about how we are in a war and it would be smart to use the armor and weapons the Bible talks about. In Eph. 6:17 says, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

It is beyond clear that the Word of God is our sword, so if how much word you have richly dwelling in you determines how big and sharp your sword is, how big and sharp is your sword? Do you have one of those huge Brave Heart swords or are you trying to fight against the devil with a butter knife? In battle would you want someone with a big sword or a butter knife watching your back? So if you don?t want to get into the Word, you must like those things that keep you in bondage. Because we know from John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
When you are studying to show yourself approved and getting the Word so deep in you that it’s dwelling in your bone marrow, the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Truth that will lead us into all Truth will reveal lies that the enemy has shot at you. He reveals His Truth and you are able to take your sword and shatter those lies that hold you in slavery! Praise God!

The Truth makes us free!! What about your prayer life? Tired of praying stuff that never seems to get answered? Well, if you don’t want to get in the Word there is a good chance you are praying prayers according to your flesh rather than the Spirit. In John 15:7 (Amp) “f you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.”
When you are abiding in Jesus Who is the Word, and His Word abides in you, you are praying prayers that are of the Spirit. You aren’t praying with your flesh, you are praying with the mind of Christ and those things you ask with the mind of Christ shall be done for you. You get the mind of Christ by abiding in Him and His Word. Eph. 4:23 tells us “to renew our minds” and in 5:26 talks about the “washing water of the Word”. The Word of God cleanses and renews our minds from all corruption. So if you’re not digging into the Word of God, you might want to reconsider. Because when the war is raging, it’s a really bummer to find out you are fighting with a little butter knife.
