What a great article! An Encouragement, especially what Lily said.

I recently claimed a promise (a specific one at that) from God to me, but it took me almost a year to claim it. I had the thoughts of YA, right God you'll do that? Nah, its too good to be true?!? NO WAY!! I was scared to be disappointed and hurt.

But He has given me so many signs, verses, etc...that it was 'stupid' for me not to claim His promise.

And like what Lily said, I have asked God to help me let go....but for some reason, I can't. Even if I prayed, cried, knelt asking and begging for God to help me move on and let go. Never happened!

I have claimed His promise to me. I should be excited about it, but unfortunately I am a skeptic --- I guess I just can't see how He will fulfill that promise.

I wish I can explain more on how He showed me His promise and how He is guiding me. But only I can understand...as they say God is truly a PERSONAL GOD.

Thank you for your article. Helped me a lot!!

Thanks Lilly & Paul! Those are, indeed, helpful comments and I;m "not just saying that", however, my question asked Paul to give us examples, from his life, to support the comments. Examples are reassuring, in my opinion!

Well said Lilly! Thank you for your comment! I am sorry Rui, for some reason I did not get the notification that you left that comment.

Lilly is right on! It really does come down to allowing the Holy Spirit to do what he does best.

The Lord is so very good and when He gives you a promise you must hold fast and not allow the enemy to steal it.

There are many examples to give, from God saying He will provide a lot of money to you for great things and the next thing you know, you go broke. Or maybe the Lord gives you a promise about your kids and all of the sudden they are acting out in a totally opposite way.

It comes down to hearing the Lord and believing it will happen... God said, I believe and that settles it! :)

Rui,
I hope you already got your answer from Paul offline.
In case he's been too busy to get back to you, I think I can answer your question.
When a promise is from God, no matter how difficult the situation is, and how many times adversities come towards you, your heart still tells you that you don't want to give up. Even at times you are emotional weary and exhausted and "feel like" giving up, you just still can't. And whenever you feel like giving up, you just don't feel the peace and something keeps bugging you inside your heart to thell you that you should still keep trying one more time !! Thats because the Holy Spirit doesn't want you to give up. The Holy spirit lives in you and guides your heart, and tells you what's right or wrong to do. You may wanna think back the times when you actually gave up on certain thing/people/dream. You felt "completely ok" that you chose to give up or perhaps you grieved for a while and then felt perfectly fine before long. Thats becuz the Holy Spirit helped you to "give up" with joy so that you could move forward to the true blessing God has in store ahead for you. But if a promise is from God, the Holy Spirit will never "help" you to give up and even you feel like giving up He will still renew your heart and give you the strength to go on !!
I hope it helps.

I totally agree with your article.I believe Christianity is warfare, Christ suffered to sin even to the point of the cross. Alot of people think that him hanging on the cross was the defining moment for him but I think his life was just as much if not more. He lived a life where he suffered to sin even to the point of the cross. He never gave into sin. That is the life we are called to, that is are promise. We to can over come just as Christ overcame. But for that to take place war must be declared on all that would come from my flesh/lusts. That is the battle I'm in. I have by no means done it as well as Christ but with my whole heart I run after him.

God bless!
