When God gives you a promise or you read one of the many promises in the Bible, you are either going to believe that promise or you won’t.
I think it’s safe to say that many people think if they don’t see their promise right away, they start to think they didn’t really hear God, or that they don’t deserve that promise…
But we have to remember, God will never rob us of an opportunity to grow our faith. And what an awesome opportunity it is when the promise doesn’t come right away! Will we continue to believe that the promise will come to pass because the Lord is faithful or will we give up?
We must also understand that the devil does not want us to receive the promise and that is why we must fight for our promise! We can’t believe the lies the enemy will speak, we must fight against the devil and fight against our flesh!
Far too often, when a long time goes by and we still haven’t seen the manifestation of our promise, we start to compromise and start doing things we shouldn’t. This is a good way to never see your promise.
I was given a great illustration of by Sandi Querin…
She said, “if you think of the promise like a plane and you as the landing strip, how prepared is your landing strip?” To often when we start to give up on the promise or believe the enemy’s lies, we allow the flesh room to breathe and start giving into its desires. This “oil of the flesh” can get on our landing strip and which would cause the plane (our promise) not to be able to land right or at all!
If you find yourself with a runway covered with the oils of the flesh and compromise, then it’s time to turn from that stuff and ask the Lord for forgiveness.
A big part of receiving your promise is believing…
When you don’t see your promise right away, you are forced to decide if you are going to continue to believe or give up. Because frankly, you either believe or you don’t.
I have also found that you don’t truly know if you really believe until that is all you have left…
When the Lord said in Matt. 6:33 To seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto us, that’s great… It’s easy to believe God that He is your provider when all your bills are getting paid. But it’s a different story when you are downing in debt and there is no possible way for you to pay your bills and put food on the table.
So will you believe? Or will you try to fix your situations yourself? The Bible tells us to walk by faith and not by sight. If we are determining if we are going to believe by what our current circumstance tells us, we are going to make a wrong decision.
When you have no other options, you must decide if you believe or not. This is a dying to yourself moment. In that moment you come to the realization that you can’t do anything without Him and He is bigger than your mess.
I use money and provision as an example because it seems to be very relevant with many people today…
Many times when the Lord gives you promise of abundance finically, you will go broke. It’s all apart if believing God’s Word and growing your faith.
I think the Lord uses these kinds of situations to also get the focus off of us. Since we seem to be self-centered so easily, when a situation like this comes up, we must take our eyes off of us and put them back where they belong… On Him.
I personally have found that the times I have been backed up against a wall and there is no way for me to fix anything, I have to let God be God and those are some of the best moments! To see the King of kings as He really is and to know that He is on my side, all I could do was worship Him.
And the crazy part… When I made the decision to believe God and know that no matter how long it takes, that promise will come to pass, that is when I start to see the situation change. Go figure! ![]()
God is good!
If you have given up on the promise or even God Himself, I encourage you to surrender to Him. To try to do “life” without Him, it’s just a long road that leads to bad places.
The Lord does love you and has great and mighty plans for those who love Him.
Keep moving forward believing in Him.
